GCSE Physics Notes: Electrical Power Requirements of Different Processes
Pretty obviously, different electrical devices need different amounts of electrical power. Generally:
Devices that heat consume the most power.
Devices that produce motion consume less.
Devices that produce light consume less still.
Devices that produce sound consume least.
The above are general. A high powered speaker or a blender for example, may consume more power than a power saving light bulb. The power requirements of some common appliances are shown below. Notice that some devices consume power to produce more than one of the above – heat is always a by product.
