Why Don’t Universities Have Mock Exams?

At university you get two chances to pass an exam. Fail and you are out.
There are lots of empty seats during every university exam. Why can’t those seats be used to seat students taking mock exams.

Mock Exam Farce

Mock exams are most useful when they are most like the real thing.
Especially when like the real exams they are spread out over a period of a few weeks.
So when I hear from a student that all their mock exams are packed into three days, I just want to scream “where is the sense?”

He is only an A Level student. If you have dropped out of University or can’t afford to go, consider this.

All we have to do is believe and communicate.

A Mathematical Musical

Evariste Galois was a prodigy who solved ancient Greek problems by virtually inventing the branch of Maths called Group Theory.
He dabbled in French revolutionary politics during the nineteenth century, then died in a duel over a girl.
He was expelled from school, failed to go to University and spent his last night alive scribbling down his discoveries, which were no understood for decades afterwards.
A story like this is well worth a musical.

History’s Recessive Gene

Every so often politics throws up a madman who rediscovers some forgotten madness and tries to sell it again.
I am thinking of Trump of course. Haven’t we tried all that before and failed?
It is like some recessive gene, usually hidden but always with us. Warnings like this should be part of every politics syllabus.
