Tip For Teachers

Never underestimate their intelligence.
Always underestimate their knowledge.
Of course this won’t work for everyone. You may be unable to overestimate someones own estimate of thir intelligence, and if they know nothing, you will not be underestimating their knowledge.

Cruel Nicknames

I knew a boy a school called ‘Jack Daniels’, in case you don’t know it, a famous brand of whisky. The fun we had over that…
Not so much fun for the boy called Richard Tater (he really exists) or Dick Tater for short. Noone calls him Ricard, or even Dick. Everyone knows him as Hitler.

World Upside Down

University rankings anyway.
The only way Surrey can be top of university rankings is forsubjets like media studies and hospitality to count equally with academic subjects like maths and physics.
Hope this doesn’t set an example of fakedness.
Like counties claiming to have the strongest army by having the most cardboard cut outs of soldiers holding pea shooters, or the fattest man claiming to be the strongest because he is the only one able to lift his own weight.
Donald Trump would be proud if the world believed a lie like this.

When People Push Belief Too Hard

I don’t believe many people are persuaded of anything by hearing people argue a point. Many people just ending talking loudly as much as possible and people just stop listening. In you want to convert people you have to make them think.
Just asking them a question might change their mind.

The Joy of MathJax

Many people who write maths for the internet use MathJax to render the latex code into images. Most people send the code to mathjax.org on every page load to be processed. I have been trying for a while to play around with a local installation and all the cache systems and proxies I use and have finally got the whole damn thing to work, so now the code is rendered on my own server with no help from anyone.
Took 6 months.

How Anyone Working in Education Can Secure Their Future

We are facing a future of declining birthrates and empty classrooms. Right now the number of children in the world is past its peak and faces a long term decline. Teachers are facing with working in a declining industry, with declining wages.
The solution? In the UK the average number of children in a class is about 20. If 20 children were born to every teacher, female and male(I should to think it it), in effect they would be working in a sustainable occupation and guaranteed work as long as they could keep breeding like rabbits
