What’s the point of scoring 100 per cent

I have scored 100% in a few exams, including one for my mmath and I have concluded that a perfect score doesn’t mean a whole lot, except  for exams. History doesn’t give a100% score to Churchill, Socrates or Roosevelt though we refer to them constantly. Your score in an exam is only a stage in your life.

Shrinking horizon, shrinking mind

The shrewish screams from the British government about asylum seekers is making me angry. Germany and Sweden are the most open societies in Europe at the moment. The Germans in fact are showing themselves to be true friends of liberty by taking close to a million asylum seekers compared to about 30,000 for the UK.
The UK is shrinking its horizons and closing its mind to all the suffering everywhere that we could do a little to alleviate by taking in some refugees.

Don’t waste your life

Half of UK graduates are stuck in menial jobs that don’t use their skills. Why do they stay in the UK? There is a world out there where their education could put them at the top of the tree.
They need to go out and find their way like the 19th century traders who spread ideas throughout the
world, and stop moaning about how the world doesn’t want them.

Every little thing you learn is magic

Experience, and knowledge is irreversible. Everything you learn makes you a better warrior in the battle for survival of the human race. This includes the madmen in Islamic state. I have no doubt if they understand newtons first law of motion and nothing else, that they will be better people.

Don’t be fooled by the truth

In student debates the truth is often an obstacle. If you want to beat your opponent in debate, make up a good lie – believable and obscure. Your opponent may well be doing the same. A good good lie is that George bush had below average iq – in other words he is subnormal.
This may actually be true. I just made it up.

Educating a better class of criminals

One of the things criminology teaches is how to follow a trail of evidence, and education of any sort teaches us to do things which would be useful if we were ever to turn to crime. A criminal merely knows how commit the crime. An educated criminal knows how to get away with it.
Suppose then that a self confessed criminal wanted to study criminology in prison so he would know how to get away with it. Should society pay for his course?
Yes it shoulf. Education makes us all better people, but only some of us better criminals.

The best binman of your generation

I get nauseous when another famous and powerful person dies and the tributes start coming in. What strikes me most is how many of these people are called the best of their generation when news of their death comes out.
For people who can’t be the best, which is most of us, be the best you can be.

Another teen knife wielding weirdo goes to jail

Everyone loses when someone is stabbed. The victim is at the very least seriously injured and the perpetrator goes to jail.
Why can’t these criminals love their victims?
Because love is nice, but hate is easy.
