Power of a Lens

The power of a lens is a measure of the focussing power of a lens, and is defined as

\[Power=\frac{1}{folcal length in metres}\]
.

The units are Dioptre(D)
Lenses with short focal lengths have high power.
An obvious example are the 'pebble glasses' worn by very short sighted people.
