One of the first extra solar planets, now called 51 Pegasi b, discovered in 1995 was a hot gas giant about half the size of Jupiter, in a four-day orbit atound 51 Pegasi that resulted in light bfrom the star being Doppler shifted in a periodic way as it otbits the combined centre of mass of the star and planet sysren that was easily identifiable. This method is the most common of several methods of extra solar planet finding.
