Jean Perrin

Jean Perrin 1870 - 1942, showed that cathode rays appeared to be negatively charged. If the rays were deflected by a magnetic field, applying Fleming's Left Hand Rule, they  appeared to have a negative charge, and allowed to hit an uncharged electroscope, the gold leaf would rise, confirming this.
