Parliament is farce

British politicians have voted In parliament to pardon Alan Turing, codebreaker and computer pioneer. While I have complete sympathy with the dead great man, the logic of this is that everyone convicted under a law which is later repealed should be pardoned, as should anyone who perfoms some small deed for the nation or who is friends with his influential local mp.
While writing this I heard of a member of the house of lords confessing to a crime, in the house of lords. He has used contacts in the dvla to trace drivers throwing litter.
It will be incredible if this man is not interviewed by the police and prosecuted.

Complete waste of time

Am at the free bp screening of Tosca live from the royal opera house in Trafalgar square and frankly we can’t see a thing.
Something occurred to me to make this pain half bearable. The subtitles are at the bottom. If they put the subtitles at the top maybe  twice as many people could read them!

In a more complex world

More wrong things get done. Shockingly few of these seem to be criminal. Despite all the public scandals in the UK and Europe crime is falling.

One Sort of Mobile Phone Accident May Be No More

The sort of accident that occurs when you wee on your phone. Apparently, instead of killing it, weeping othe next generation of phones could mean charging it. This is of special interest to me because several times while drunk I have got up in the middle of the night to wee on my phone in response to a text message.

Prince of Wales pays rent to himself!

The prince of wales is apparently paying himself to live in his own house. What an excellent way to send money in a great big loop making the taxman confused and your own financial affairs opaque.
We should all pay rent to ourselves to see if we can get away with it like the British royal family.

Santander on the brink?

Of asking for a bailout or whatever passes these days for banking insolvency.

This morning they informed me that my premium current account was being migrated to an everyday account. This is apparently happening to all their premium accounts. This is not a very good way to treat their premium customers. It makes me think they are on the brink of something and I am tempted to push them.

Einstein was full of crap

Einstein defined insanity as ‘doing the same thing over and over and expecting different outcomes each time’. In fact quite a lot of the time the outcomes are different.
The sort of outcomes I am especially interested in are the answers ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Quite often I am told ‘no’ by customer services. After some screaming and shouting, having the phone put down on me, swearing, speaking to several representatives, supervisors, managers for sometimes hours (I really enjoy it), quite often I am told ‘yes’.
