Decline

At the moment the collective human mind is in an expansive mood because things are generally getting better and wealth is increasing.
This may not be true for much longer.
To get an idea of the future catastrophe look at Japan, a country on a straight road to extinction, at the moment running at budget deficit of 8% to pay pensions, with debt over twice their national wealth.
When we all realise we are in collective decline and there is no hope for us we will start fighting each other like Jews in the gas chamber, climbing to the top of a pile of corpses for the last gasp of air.
